Time can be only reported on existing tasks. However, tasks can be created directly from the "Timesheet" if the user is authorized to create tasks not connected to a plan.

Both "Projects" and "Tasks" must meet correct status requirements to report time against them:

1. A project must have a status of "In progress" (default statuses apply; if project statuses were customized, refer to the Keywords & Labels Setup document for the [Projects] module for details).
2. For tasks, one of the following conditions must be met:
1. The task is assigned to the resource who needs to report time, and the status is "Requested", "In progress" or "To control".
   
2. The task is unassigned, and the status is "In progress" or "To control". In this scenario, any resource listed in the Participants section of the "Project description" is permitted to report time spent on this task.
