The concept of constraints (links or dependencies) in Geniusproject only exists in the Gantt Chart.
Links can be created between tasks, between deliverables and between tasks and deliverables. It is not possible to create links between phases. Once a link is broken it is displayed in orange (e.g. a task has started although its predecessor hasn't finished yet).
There are four types of links that can be created with the following rules:
FINISH-START: the start date of the targeted task cannot be set to the same date or before the end date of the source task.
START-FINISH: the end date of the targeted task cannot be set before the start date of the source task.
START-START: the start date of the targeted task cannot be set before the start date of the source task.
FINISH-FINISH: the end date of the targeted task cannot be set after the end date of the source task.
Note: The rules apply to tasks bound by constraints that are not yet in progress, completed or canceled
Creating a link
To create a link between two tasks, just keep clicked on an item (from whatever end the link should be created) and move the courser up or down. Then select the item (on whatever end wished) it should be linked to.
Another way to create a link is to click on the icon in the toolbar and then select the beginning or end of the task (depending on the type of link you want to define) from which to start and drag the link to the beginning or the end of the task, where the link should end.
Milestones can be linked too and are done so the same way. It is also possible to select different items (no phases) and link them by the icon
Link properties
Click on the icon to open the Link properties dialog box. It contains all of the information related to the selected constraint.
The window is available in both read and edit mode.
Deleting a Link
To delete a link, first click on it in the Gantt Chart to select, then click on the icon on the tool bar and the link will be deleted or press DEL on the keyboard.
