Gates view

The Gates view provides a structured overview of a gate-based project.
It displays phases, gates, and tasks in a single matrix, allowing you to quickly understand project progress and review gate status.


Availability

The Gates view is only available if the following conditions are met:

  • the project is created from a Gate Template

  • the project is assigned to the correct project type

  • a Phase review process is defined for that project type

If these conditions are not fulfilled, the Gates view is not available in the project description.

Purpose

Use the Gates view to:

  • understand the structure of a gate-based project

  • follow the progress of phases

  • review the status of each gate

  • see which tasks belong to each phase

  • navigate directly to phases, gates, and tasks

Layout

The Gates view is organised into a matrix with several sections.

Legend

A legend explains the status indicators used in the view.

Phase status

  • Stand By

  • In Progress

  • Completed

Gate / Task status

  • Stand By

  • In Progress

  • Denied

  • Completed


Matrix structure

The matrix is structured in three levels: phases, gates, and tasks.

Phases

Phases are displayed as horizontal arrows at the top of the matrix.

  • each phase spans a defined range of gates

  • the width of the phase reflects its gate range

  • phases are colour-coded based on status

Status colours

  • grey = Stand By

  • blue = In Progress

  • green = Completed

Click a phase to open its details.


Gates

Gates are displayed as columns below the phases.

  • each gate appears in sequence

  • the order of gates defines the structure of the matrix

  • each gate is labelled at the top of its column

Gate status

Each gate includes a status indicator.

Status indicators

  • outlined = Stand By

  • yellow = In Progress

  • red = Denied

  • green = Completed


Tasks

Tasks are displayed in the lower section of the view.

  • each task appears on its own row

  • tasks are sorted by end date

  • tasks are positioned under the phase they belong to

This layout allows you to quickly see which tasks are associated with each phase.

Click a task to open its details.


Status details

Hover over a gate or task status indicator to display additional information:

  • title

  • status

  • end date

  • assignee


How to read the view

To understand the project at a glance:

  1. review the phases to understand the structure

  2. check the gates to follow the sequence

  3. look at gate statuses to identify progress and issues

  4. review tasks to see execution details

You can navigate directly from the Gates view:

  • click a phase to open the phase

  • click a gate to open the gate

  • click a task to open the task

Notes

  • the view supports horizontal scrolling for projects with many gates

  • labels remain visible to maintain readability

  • the layout adapts to different screen sizes
